I ever met in my life, I had to make a very difficult decision. I had to either leave Jon behind and get on with my life in the Netherlands, or take a chance and leave everything I knew behind, risking it for the possibility of a life of unknowns. I guess I can say this was the hardest decision I had to make in my life.
Wednesday evening, 6 PM. I was waiting in the car for Jon to pick him up to go out for dinner. I had made the decision for myself. This was it – I was going home. There was no way I could stay here longer because I didn't have a job or U.S. citizenship. I told him there, in the parking lot in front of his office. He was silent. His eyes watered.
